暨南大学历史悠久，成立于清朝光绪32年（1906年）。暨南大学会计学系是由我国现代会计学宗师潘序伦博士于1925年亲手创办的，是我国最早在大学中设立的会计专业之一。“文革”期间随着暨大的停办而暂停招生。1978年暨大复办后于1980年恢复会计学系，重新招收会计学本科生。1983年我系开始招收会计学专业硕士研究生，成为国家批准的有硕士学位授予权的第二批单位之一。2000年，在全国第八次博士授予权的激烈竞争中，我系又凭借自己雄厚的实力，获得会计学博士学位授予权资格，并于2001年开始招收会计学博士学。2002年，我系会计学专业被评为广东省“名牌专业”；2003年，我系会计学科被评为国务院侨办“重点学科”。2004年，我系又开始招收攻读会计专业硕士学位（MPAcc）的研究生，成为我国首批招收该专业学位硕士研究生的单位之一。长期以来，我系秉承“两个面向”、“侨校＋名校”的办学方向与宗旨，一直以五个第一而闻名于华南地区，即第一个在华南地区率先成立会计学系，历史最悠久；第一个开始招收会计学本科生；第一个拥有会计学硕士学位授予权；第一个拥有会计学博士学位授予权；第一个面向港澳台及海外地区招收会计硕士和博士生。

    我国许多会计学著名学者（如潘序伦、杨汝梅、朱国璋、王澹如等）都曾先后任教于我系。经过几代人的努力，目前暨南大学会计学系办学层次齐全、师资力量雄厚、教学条件优良、教学管理体系合理。几十年来，我系向全国特别是珠江三角洲和港澳台地区，以及东南亚等其他国家输送了一大批高素质的会计专业人才。会计学系将继续利用现有的雄厚师资队伍、良好的社会声誉、丰硕的学术成果和拼搏奋进的团队精神，立足现实，面向未来，再创明天的辉煌，为我国和东南亚等其他国家的经济发展作出更大的贡献。

Accountancy Department in Jinan University enjoys history of long standing and was founded in 1925 by Doctor Pan Xulun, the founded of modern accounting in China. Jinan University is one of the first Chinese universities that set up the Accountancy Department. The Department suspended admission during the Cultural Revolution and was re-established in 1980, and started the admission of postgraduates majoring in accounting, joining the second group of universities authorized by the National Education Committee to award master degree. The department was the only one of the applicants that was authorized to award Ph.D.degree in accounting in 2000 and started to admit Ph.D.candidates in 2001. The department is the only one in south China that awards Ph.D.degree in accounting. The department will start the admission of MPAcc postgraduates in 2004, and is the first authorized in China, the department has been enjoying great prestige in southern China, being famous for the five NO.1: the first accountancy department in Southern China; the first to admit undergraduates major in accounting; the first qualified to award master degree; the first qualified to award doctor degree and the first to recruit postgraduates and Ph.D.candidates from overseas areas.

Among the faculty it engaged, many are famous scholars in accountings, such as Pan Xulun, Yang Rumei, Zhu Guozhang and Wang Zhanru. With the efforts of several generations, the Department now has a complete range of disciplines, an outstanding faculty, sound teaching facilities and a proper administration system. In the past decades, the Department has cultivated a large number of quality talents in accounting all over the country, especially in Zhujiang Delta, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, and Southeast Asia. The department keeps trying to make greater contributions to the development of economics in China and countries in Southeast Asia.
